Paisley, Come Out and Play With Me ~ When Clouds Touch #romance #AsianAmerican #IndianAmerican #Holi

“Would you like to go to the Holi festival with me tonight?”

“I’ll go any and everywhere with you.”

Malachi laughed. Reached across the island in the kitchen of Paisley’s apartment and pulled her close, kissing her lips. She tasted of the mixtures of fruit she was swiping and snacking. The juice from the oranges he was cutting to put in the lemonade, dripped from his hands and perfumed her hair.

“Awww, you’re so sweet, Paisley. I almost want to stay right here with you, but I think you’ll love this festival. It’s a celebration of colors and Spring. Usually there are hundreds of people. All friendly and full of fun.”

“Really? I’d love to. Is there a certain way to dress?”

“I usually wear white because the colors show up better. Sometimes it gets wild. People spray colored water in the crowd and colored powder is thrown. When it lands on you, it can be beautiful.”

“Sounds like it. What time? Should I cover my hair?”

“Depends on whether or not you’re an adventurist.”

 “I’m into anything you are.”

“Ooh, I always knew you were the lady for me. And just so we get this straight, you can think me freaky if you want, but I’ve dated and saved each t-shirt from every festival I’ve attended inside a special window box.”

“Well, you know I’ll never think you’re freaky. You’ve shown me some pretty unique things. I would never have thought about flying kites at night. Last night was magical. The glow in the dark paints made the experience something I will never forget.”

“Wait until you become a part of tonight. I can’t explain the love and feeling of oneness you’ll feel. As soon as we finish our meal, we can leave.”

 **

Three hours later, Paisley was still running and dancing in the dark with the remaining few hundred cheering party goers. Floating in and out of groups of revelers to stand Malachi at her side, under clouds of colored powder, hands in air and twirling under the stars. No one stared at her, no one judged her as she laughed and moved on to the next burst of colors. For the first time in her life she was the same as everyone around her. A willing wiggling canvas, happy and ready for whatever was thrown at her. She’d never felt so uninhibited or ecstatically joyous as she was in that moment. That was until she buried her fingers in the material of Malachi’s shirt, pulled him down to her height and pressed her lips to his.

“Thank you so much, Malachi. I haven’t felt this free in all of my life. First I was able to be out her during the light of day, hiding in the shadows of a the largest tree and yet I still felt comfortable. Everyone has been really nice. I’m speechless and happy.”

“That’s exactly how I wanted you to feel. You made my day, and my night so perfect. So, are you ready to leave? We’ve been here a while and I don’t want to tire you out.”

“Ooooh,” she pouted a bit, scanning the crowd. “Is it over? There are infants here.” She pointed at a mother hugging a baby in a pouch. Its tiny form covered by a colorful cloth. “I’m not ready to go back home, yet. It’s so boring there.”

Malachi checked his watch, we’ve been here long enough and I think its time for you to take your meds,” He raised his hands in the air in mock fear at the burning stare she gave him. “Okay, okay take it as the medical man in me. You told me you take them at nine, its after ten, now.”

“That’s fine Malachi, I don’t mind you caring for my health, I’m not going to deal with another person acting like my parents, though. My younger brothers have been doing a perfect impression of being their clones. I just want a lover, honey, friend and I want you to be that person.”

“Are you sure you haven’t swallowed too much paint?” Kissing her lips again, he peered into her eyes. “You’re sure you want to start a serious relationship? It’s been three months and I am more than vested. My brothers have been teasing me no end because all of my spare time has been tied with you. There will be no turning back.”

“More than sure. Let’s go on to your home.” Almost as soon as she sat on the seat of the car, her cellphone rang. Digging into her jean pocket with the tip of her fingers, Paisley pulled out her cell. “Hello?” Looking at Malachi, she rolled her eyes, mouthing her frustrations at how her parents were always checking on her. “No, Dad I’m not at home. Yes, I know what time it is. No, I won’t be home soon. I’m hanging out with a friend. I’ll call you later.” Abruptly ending the call, she hurriedly turned off the ringer and pushed it in her backpack before she caved and relented to her father’s demand she go home and rest. “My parents can be really annoying sometimes.”

“Well, we can go to your apartment if that will make you feel better. I don’t want to start our relationship with a war between your parents.”

“No, no. It will be okay. It’s time they grew into the fact, I am not a child tied to their traditional ways. Besides, there’s no need for me to rush back to the house. I have my meds with me and I’m with the most dependable person in the world. ”

“Believe me, I understand parents and tradition. I promise to get you home at a decent hour. At least before the sun rises.” He added, laughing at her wide eyed expression.

Once in the foyer of his home, Paisley froze in shock. As she stood, her back against one wall, her front faced the image of herself and Malachi in one of the largest ornate mirrors she had ever seen. Where it stood, room height and majestic, she and Malachi were framed in it’s middle, smaller and ridiculously abstract. From head to toe they dripped mixtures of hues. He, smiling in amusement, batted his long dark lashes and she stood mesmerized, following the puffs of pinks yellows and blues that fell from them. Their path falling directly in front of his lips. Lips he pursed to blow the powder in her direction, causing her to blink rapidly to stop herself from grabbing and kissing them again. Her, smiling in return, pale skin the perfect foil for every color of the rainbow. She brushed her hand across the tint at her breast and he watched with bated breath, wishing it were his hands. Her waist length hair streaked, and actually beautiful in its varied rays and she wondered, briefly, whether she should have it permanently colored. Lifting the weight above her head, she examined it closer before letting it loose, to waft down- spraying a multitude of small clouds throughout the room.

“I think it will wash out.” Malachi fingered the abundance of layers, “It is very pretty, though.”

“I know, right. I was contemplating on keeping the colors, but then my parents, would kill me.”

“I’m with you, whatever you want to do, but know I would love it more if you kept the original.”

If there is a fault in the stars, Ey Wade's~ When Clouds Touch will fix that. #romance #comingofage #AsianAmerican

When Clouds Touch received a lovely review on the USA Today HEA blog.

It's always a thrill to get recognition for your stories and I appreciate all of them. Take a look:

"Ey Wades' When Clouds Touch goes outside the box from choosing to write about the aesthetically perfect heroine. As such, the story is richer and more meaningful for the effort. The lessons about finding strength and beauty from within are delivered with delicacy and courage through characters who love and live with purpose and joy.

Wade stays true to her fresh approach from beginning and certainly to the end. Expect the heartstrings to be pulled and the emotions to be stirred for the powerful connection between Paisley and Malachi. A romance with an emotional twist.

About When Clouds Touch (courtesy of InknBeans Press):
Destined to meet since before birth, their story wraps us somewhere between loving and caring, wanting the best for someone, while wanting to see them happy, even when it is risky and they must obey the demands of family.
Paisley, a woman of Japanese descent, living with Albinism and heart disease, is meek, yet makes no apologies for seeking what she yearns to have. Hiding behind the protective fold of her wagasa, she longs for freedom from her overprotective parents and the love of a man she's known only in her dreams, even at the cost of her health.
Malachi, a man who has visions of meeting an elusive shadow, uses his sense of humor and sensitive side to build their relationship. He's determined to win her love, even against the wishes of her parents.

*When Clouds Touch - Captures Two More Hearts* #romance

There are many things that brighten the days of an author, but I feel the ones that touch our hearts more, are the reviews. Especially if they show how well the book's story was embraced by the reader.

    https://twowritersonebook.wordpress.com/2015/04/22/when-clouds-touch-by-ey-wade/
I am excited to share two of the latest reviews of When Clouds Touch
by Tia Kelley & Nia Foster from Two Writers, Two Takes, One Bookat a Time.

When Clouds Touch is the story of soul mates, Paisley and Malachi. Hiding behind the protective fold of her wagasa, she longs for freedom from her overprotective parents and the love of a man she’s known only in her dreams, even at the cost of her health. Malachi, a man who has visions of meeting an elusive shadow, uses his sense of humor and sensitive side to build their relationship. He’s determined to win her love, even against the wishes of her parents.

    Nia’s Take:
Whenever I begin a book–whether I know the genre or not–I am tempted to categorize it. You know how that goes: you read a few paragraphs or a chapter, and you go, ‘Oh, I see. This is supposed to be a thriller!’ or whatever the case may be. Even after reading the blurb for Ey Wade’s ‘When Clouds Touch’, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but I loosely categorized it in my mind as a romance. Then almost immediately as I began reading, I realized that this wasn’t going to be the same ol’-same ol’.

The premise, of soul-mates flitting about the outskirts of each other’s lives until the time of their predestined meeting, is novel but not unprecedented. What made it intriguing was the complete ‘otherness’ of the main characters. Paisley is a young woman grappling with what it means to be on her own for the first time in her life, struggling with overbearing parents and a desire to become her own person. So far not particularly remarkable, right? But Paisley is Japanese-American and her parents are very traditional, very protective. And added to that, Paisley has albinism which renders her legally blind. She also has congenital heart disease, a condition which–her parents often remind her–once killed her as a baby before she was revived. Paisley’s “condition” is the tether that binds her to her parents in a way that she has always felt was stifling. But the path of least resistance for her has always been to … not resist. Except now, attending school and living on her own, she is finally on the cusp of independence, as long as she can convince her parents that she is being attentive to her health. Enter Malachi. He is a handsome East Asian man whom Paisley has known literally all her life, earthly and before. Though they have never actually met, nor spoken to each other, Paisley and Malachi’s souls were bound before their birth and they have been ever-present in each other’s lives from the time they were infants; always on the cusp, but never quite meeting. When finally they do meet, in a minor mishap as she enters the building where he works, Paisley and Malachi quickly dispense with coy mating rituals and pour themselves into each other, recognizing their other half almost immediately. But there is still the pesky issue of Paisley’s health and her oppressively over-protective parents who in an effort to save her life have denied her the pleasures of living. This includes things as extreme as confiscating her phone to prevent her from contacting Malachi, and keeping her a virtual prisoner in their home when they grow concerned about this new attachment she’s formed. Malachi‘When Clouds Touch’ is a love story, but also struck me as being a fairy tale in the best sense. Paisley has an otherworldly quality in appearance that cause people to stop and stare; and a princess-like isolation from the real world, that is similar to Rapunzel locked in the tower. Because of her isolation, and because she recognizes Malachi as her meant-to-be, she wastes no time in letting him know that she is devoted to him. Malachi is her prince, seeking to rescue her from the tower, using first his charm and eventually his smarts to overcome Paisley’s parents’ resistance. All the things that Paisley hasn’t seen, he is determined to show her; and if she asks, he can’t say ‘no’ even when saying ‘yes’ puts her health and life at risk. No time is wasted in this book with the sometimes tedious ‘love-me, love-me-not’ stuff. Paisley and Malachi’s conflicts come from the limitations she has because of her health, and from her parents’ well-intentioned but damaging hovering and intervention. At first, as I read, I was waiting for ‘When Clouds Touch’ to show its romance-novel chops and become the kind of book one expects from that genre. But it never did. And the story was better off for it. When I let go of my preconceptions, the story and its characters settled in for me. I stopped expecting Paisley and Malachi to relate to each other as traditional romance novel heroes and heroines do, and I came to accept it as it was. Ey Wade’s writing is worthy of note as well, because it gave the story an almost mythical quality which I believe was fully intended. The imagery had a wistful, dreamlike feel, particularly in the scenes that played out in a field of bluebonnets, and at a festival that left the pale-as-a-ghost Paisley covered in all the colors of the rainbow. The color in those scenes for me symbolized the color and depth that Malachi brought to Paisley’s previously monochromatic life, and added to the overall mystical feel of the story.

Although at times I found the dialogue a little ‘romantic’ or sentimental, at other times it fit perfectly the theme of a love and bond that transcended time and space. And there was also something brave about the sentimentality when most writers these days (myself included) seem to be striving for the opposite by writing stories with gritty realism (but with a billionaire or two thrown in). So I applaud Ey Wade for going where so few writers dare to tread–not only in her style but in the unexpected, though not unsatisfactory climax to her book. ‘When Clouds Touch’ left me curious about what I may be missing by not having read other work by this author. But I suspect that when I do, those Paisley stories will–like this book–be somewhat magical, somewhat unexpected.

    ****************
    Tia’s Take:

I’ve never read Ey Wade’s work before, nor did I know what to expect from her most recent novel “When Clouds Touch.” I just knew what the description stated. Once I started reading, I realized the blurb barely covered what was to come… except I still didn’t know what that would be. I knew there was a young woman named Paisley MuRong that had been dealing with severe medical conditions, including Albinism and congenital heart disease. I also learned Paisley shared a destiny with Malachi Dae, and this was determined way before they even took their first breaths. What I didn’t know was why their path toward each other was so powerful or what type of story this was going to be. Was this a romantic tale? Something mystical? A story where the author will somehow exercise creative license? Should any of that matter? It did, until I made the conscious decision to simply let that go and that’s when I was able to relax a little more and not anticipate what could come on the next page. In the world of Paisley, that’s how it is… nothing is known or even guaranteed. Therefore her world is a very cautious one. With very overprotective and, understandably so, overbearing parents, Paisley has spent most of it hidden from the “dangers” that we would simply call life. For that, I was sad for her. I even became upset and disliked her parents for it.

Then I recalled the earliest pages in this novel where Paisley and Malachi’s mothers both have moments where they felt their babies… but more importantly they were so in tune that they “knew” their child by a reaction felt in the womb. As a parent myself, I got it… That life that grew from almost nowhere was everything and forever was there a connection between parent and child. An uncontrollable desire to protect at all costs happens that just can’t be explained… So when Paisley’s parents demonstrated their helicopter behaviors and then some, it was because they loved her so much that they didn’t want to lose her again. Yes… again. Paisley’s health had many scares since she was born, including a time when they lost her and I am pretty sure that was something no one would ever want to experience again.

So Paisley’s parents erected barriers and essentially created a safe place or bubble for their little girl to live in, except she is no longer their little girl. Paisley is an adult woman and she is feeling things that any one of us would feel that “bubbles” can’t keep us from experiencing. Malachi – her soul mate – has been around her all her life, but it takes a chance encounter (or is it chance?) to finally allow their worlds to collide. At that point, there’s no turning back. Chemistry has taken hold of the situation and a curious Paisley and a love struck Malachi set out to help her experience life outside the safe cocoon that Paisley’s parents prefer to keep her in.

What I appreciated about this story is that Ey Wade was almost poetic with her descriptions and scenes. The scene that still stands out for me days after reading it was when Paisley and Malachi were lying under her wagasa, a large Japanese umbrella that Paisley carries everywhere to shield her from the sun. Malachi looks up at the filtered view of the sky through the wagasa and asks Paisley what she sees. Her response and view from beneath it saddened me, as she keeps her head down and moves quickly from place to place in her life. It’s when something halts her or curiosity gets the better of her does Paisley get a closer peek at what’s beyond the bubble… but it always costs her a little more than she’s ready for.

Ey Wade brings life into the world of a young woman that has been isolated in a place that her parents feel will protect her – from the harmful sun, from the germs of the world, from the judging eye of people that will make stupid comments about her rare features or fear her enough to wish her death – and gives her life through Malachi.

Reading “When Clouds Touch” made me curious about the author and her other works, which I will be checking out as well, and something I felt through her writing was confirmed. Ms. Wade takes special care in education, caring, protecting and connecting people that aren’t likely to find each other otherwise. I felt that in her “When Clouds Touch” and it made me care even more about Paisley when she would twist Malachi’s arm to do something her parents would otherwise object to or if a hand-to-the-chest moment popped up in the story. She also managed to do that while bringing less than ordinary characters that are unfortunately missing in so many pages and giving a story with an outcome that was purely unexpected – one that held my attention until the last page. As an author, Ms. Wade took great care in showing all sides of the story and why no side or character was ever really wrong or right. Everyone wanted the best for all in this story. Thanks to the storytelling of Ey Wade, so did I. And when you step into the story holding onto empathy for the cast of characters until the very end, you’ve walked into a good thing.

    I'm Gonna Marry Her~ When Clouds Touch #romance #Albinism

“The smaller gift is an Omamori, basically a good luck amulet Omamori means to protect. This one is an Anzan. It’s ...”
“A wish for good health of a pregnant woman and a newborn baby,” her mother finished. The expression on her face as she stared at the amulet in her hand told all sorts of things to the people at the table. Happiness was not one of them.

The younger of Paisley’s two brothers held the small amulet by the string, swinging it back and forth. “Ewww, are you telling us you’re pregnant, Paisley?”
“Yes.” She squealed ecstatically standing and bouncing in place. Twirling until the layers of her skirt flowed, engulfing and wrapping around the legs of her sister who joined her in dance. Khushi Dae and Malachi’s grandmother pushed back their chairs, each happily taking turns embracing Paisley in their joy. Everyone remaining at the table had their attention focused on Malachi.
Not knowing what else to do, Malachi decided to brazen it out. Arms folded behind his head, legs crossed, with a complacent smile on his face, Malachi leaned the chair back until it rested on the back legs. “Well, go ahead and blame me. I’ll stand up to my responsibilities.”
“You better, akudou.” His father, walking behind him to join the women, swept the legs of the chair as he passed. The immediate laughter from all as Malachi caught himself before hitting the floor, lightened the atmosphere.
“Ha, ha. You all go ahead and laugh.” Malachi stood, brushed down his clothing and straightened his chair while trying to gather his dignity. Instead of sitting, he moved to where Paisley stood. Separating her from the well-wishers, he helped her into her chair but remained standing behind his.Smiling slightly, he accepted the bottle of wine from the hands of the waiter. “Now that Paisley has excited everyone with our little announcement, I wanted to openly apologize for causing everyone stress and ask for the forgiveness of both families.”
“Wine won’t clear it that easily, little brother.” Yogi sipped from his glass of water, his index finger pointing towards Mr. MuRong. “Words mean nothing, you have to do something bigger.”
“You know me. After lunch I have plans.”
“Malachi, what are you talking about?” Paisley scooted closer and whispered in his ear.
Patting the top of her hand without answering, he directed his next words to her father. “Mr. MuRong, sir, I know I showed you and Paisley’s beautiful mother an enormous amount of disrespect and I want to make up for that.”
“No disrespect to your father, but it will take more than a dinner, where you spring the announcement of my grandchild as easily as you announce the weather. Why is it you always want to have important discussions in a restaurant? Your decorum is wanting.”
“Stick with me through lunch, sir and I promise you will love me.” He laughed at the collective dismissal sound from every person at the table. “Family, don’t give up on me, yet. I’m full of surprises.”
When dessert was served, conversation began to lag until eventually silence reigned and all eyes turned to Malachi. He raised his hand and immediately a waitress appeared by his side and presented a card to Paisley. In confusion, Paisley looked towards Malachi.
“Go with her Paisley, Yoshiko will you go with them? Mr. And Mrs. MuRong, Amma, Appa- everyone, will you follow me?” Malachi reached out, clasping the elbow of his grandmother and helping her from her chair.
“We’ll go with the girls.” Malachi’s mom laughed, excitedly clasping Paisley’s mom’s hand. Looking as if she knew something no one else knew.

The path to the restaurant’s rear garden and pagoda was lined on either side by hedges of roses and covered with arches of red wagasas and lit Japanese lanterns. At the entrance to the pagoda, Malachi stood with his brothers and an officiant, nervously waiting for his bride.
When Paisley stepped through the double glass doors to the garden, the first notes of Malachi’s favorite song began to play and Paisley had to laugh at the sight of Yogi punching his brother on the shoulder and the short comical argument which ensued. It was obvious to her, Yogi as eldest brother, was chastising Malachi for being bold and teasing her father. What better song to use than Rude by Magic!? Listening to the chorus declaring the singer’s intention to marry his girl touched Paisley through her very being and she was overwhelmed with love. She wanted to run into his arms, but instead, looked up and smiled into the compassionate gaze of her father as he stepped to her side.
“That fellow is determined to love you, my angel.”
    “Yes, for eternity, Ota-san.”
“And I will accept that and treat him as a son, the little gaki.”

Positive thinking leads to positive outcomes!!! Julies Book Review: EY Wade Day 1

Check out the site where Paisley and Malachi will be visiting the next few days. Positive thinking leads to positive outcomes!!! Julies Book Review: EY Wade Day 1: Paisley has dreamed of this connection all of her life, held him in every pulse of her heart, glimpsed him from the corner of her eyes, ...

Day twoAn excerpt : “So, what does a fellow do when the father of the woman he loves, just doesn't have the same feelings for him? The video at the end makes me think of all the trouble Malachi has when trying to convince Paisley's dad about how much he loves the man's daughter. An Affair of the Heart “Mom, yes I understand what you are saying, that’s why I’m calling you. I’ve only been gone four hours. Everything is fine. I’m perfectly okay with Malachi. Where did you think I would be? Did you get my note?” “Note? Note?” Annie’s voice rose an octave on the repeat of the word. A sure sign she had lost all control. “Do you think a few short abrupt sentences explain your action? Do you believe they excuse the way you have left your father and I on the verge of terror? We had no idea where you were or how you had gone. You can’t drive because of your vision. Did you call a taxi? Are you okay? Tell me where you are and we will come and get you.” “I’m not coming back there.” “Paisley, honey you aren’t planning anything drastic are you? You were so upset last night. Please, I will talk to your father, make him see we want you happy. Have him change his mind about Malachi. Just come home.” “I’m not coming there, Mom. It’s not my home, its the family home. I moved out and the two of you moved me back in. Took away my freedom, my love, and tried to push me back into the role of a naive child. I can’t return to that.” “Then what are you going to do?” “I’m going to spend the next couple of weeks with Malachi, marry him, and then I’ll return as his wife to confront you and Oto-san.” “What? You’re going to-” Annie MuRong yelled to her husband, calling him to the phone relating everything Paisley had said to her. Her voice on the line was immediately replaced by her husband’s angry demanding tirade. “Paisley Tenshi MuRong, are you serious? You will marry this man?”

    Day Three http://juliesbookreview.blogspot.com/2015/02/ey-wade-day3.html?m=1 Another scene:
The chair legs scraped loudly on the kitchen floor when Frankie MuRong pushed away from the table and strolled through the sliding glass doors to the backyard. He knew where he could find Paisley, on his way in the house through the patio door, he’d seen her diving into the pool. The pool he’d had built for her after she watched a movie about a mermaid. As a child she became convinced she was a mermaid and they had stolen her and removed her ability to swim. She'd demanded lessons and learned well, determined to one day get to the ocean and swim far away. Where she would finally be happy. Choosing to sit under one of the many trees provided to keep the area well shaded, he watched his eldest daughter. Her strokes were swift, long, hard, and angry. Back and forth she swam across the Olympic sized pool like a fish stuck in a bowl. Over and over until without warning, she stopped in the middle, treading water and crying. Her back was to him but he could hear her clearly. Her sobs echoed through the water, vibrating into his soul and he wanted to cry with her. He’d only seen her as a rebellious, recalcitrant child. Never imagining her to be so sad and heartbroken. Looking up as a hand was placed on his shoulder, he stared into the weeping eyes of his wife. The tears falling from her eyes simultaneously with the ones dripping from the tips of his lashes, landed on the back of his hand and mingled. Sitting next to him on the cool grass, she whispered into his ear. Silently, he listened. He listened to her reminder of how his great-grandfather had not accepted the love of his own Chinese grandfather, and the family had not been destroyed. He remembered how he’d felt when Annie’s family wanted to keep them apart. How angry and frustrated he had been when his parents believed it would be best if he continued his education before he married her.
Eventually, he nodded in agreement to Annie’s whispers.

Quietly, they watched Paisley plunge under the water, propel upward in a rise as if she would break free to reach the heavens, only to return to earth. Where she beat the water in anger until it rose and slapped back in its incapability to give her what she wanted. Spotting them, she swam to where they were, wiping her face and wringing her hair. Her habitual demeanor of porcelain beauty and obedience back in place.

    DAY4
http://juliesbookreview.blogspot.com/2015/02/ey-wade-day-4.html?m=1 When Your publisher hates your character.: "By the way, I really hated her father. Really. Really really. I think I hated him more reading it the second time." These are the encouraging words of my publisher at Inknbeans Press, yes, encouraging because it lets me know I got the point across. More important, it made Mr. Frank MuRong chuckle. This fellow cares none about your feelings. Mr. MuRong is the father of Paisley, one of the main characters from When Clouds Touch. He's stubborn, rude, opinionated, and dislikes Malachi, the love of Paisley's life. When Clouds Touch is the embodiment of a story of soul mates, Paisley and Malachi. Destined to meet since before birth, their story wraps us somewhere between loving and caring, wanting the best for someone, while wanting to see them happy, even when it is risky and they must obey the demands of family. Paisley, a woman of Japanese decent, living with Albinism and heart disease, is meek, yet makes no apologies for seeking what she yearns. Hiding behind the protective fold of her wagasa, she yearns for freedom from her overprotective parents and the love of a man she's known only in her dreams, even at the cost of her health. Malachi, a man who has visions of meeting an elusive shadow, uses his sense of humor and sensitive side to build their relationship. He's determined to win her love, even against the wishes of her parents.~ In a few days Mr. MuRong and his lovely wife will be a guest In The Chair and they will shed more light on their hard to swallow personality. Amused and wanting to know more about my publisher's feelings for this couple, I asked her if I had given them any redeeming qualities. "As for her parents, there were no redeeming qualities. I couldn't even excuse them as loving their daughter and wanting the best for her, because they only wanted the best for themselves."

Honestly, I couldn't write the MuRongs differently. As a writer, we all understand how this happens. The character comes out and well, shows their true character. You can try all you want to make them different, but somewhere in the novel, the real them is exposed. That's the type of people they showed themselves to be, dedicated and overzealous in the protection of their daughter. My next question was: Does it make the book seem bad? Does it work? And when your publisher comes back with a statement like this- "Oh, absolutely. It makes Paisley and Malachi's plight all the more powerful. This is probably the best thing you've ever written, it's like origami, perfectly folded into delicate layers that create a complex yet simple image. It's a touching and beautiful story. I hope you're very proud of it."

DAY 5: I love photographers  who can tell a story through a single shot, Atsuko12, is one such an artist. As a matter of fact her photo of leaves reflecting through the folds of a wagasa, is one of the inspirations of When Clouds Touch. The ability to protect while being transparent enough to show life, is what drew me to the picture and bought this scene into my mind.~~   When Clouds Touch   "Tell me you love me, Paisley. " “Aishiteiru, Malachi. I love you.” Without a pause or a second thought, she obeyed his command. He paused for a moment after snapping the shot, living the dawning knowledge revealed in her eyes that the statement was true. What was said casually now showed intensely and beckoned him into that reality. “Mujhe bhi tumse iskh huwa hai, I have also fallen in love with you.” Malachi fell to his knees, crawling to her as if being reeled in by a lifeline. Until their lips touched, melded, and their combined breath became a sustaining life force, one for the other. He felt her hands caress his back, his chest, fingers at the buttons of his shirt and he mimicked them, his fingers steadier and quicker, released the buttons at the top of her dress, pulling short when the gap revealed the tiny lace bra underneath. He flicked its front opening, exposing her flesh to his view – a sight immediately covered with his mouth. His need to be closer overwhelming his conscious mind which was telling him to move slower. But it wasn’t his mind, ruling him, it was her hands doing the directing, creating the momentum and he followed her emotions, her rush to fulfillment by caressing her touching her until she lost her control and cried out for him to stop.  He rolled to his back, breathing hard, chastising himself for trying to rush her, expecting to see the sky and realized they were shielded from the elements by the red panels of the umbrella. Its protection allowing only the softest light from the sun through, casting a soft glow on everything. He watched her as she adjusted her clothing, loving the pink on her skin, like the shell of a pearl.    “Is this how it always is under your umbrella, Paisley? Glimpses of light, beautiful color, shadows of leaves, silhouettes of birds, peaceful?” Paisley lay quiet for a moment, then reached over to button his shirt and rest her head on his chest. Looking through the paper and seeing the world for the first time through his vision. The change in perception made the world a different place, one she had never really noticed.  “I rarely look up when I’m walking. It would probably be a little dangerous. My wagasa had always been my protection, my way of hiding from the world while spying on its way of living. Basically, it has been a tool. You are constantly showing me its real duty is that of love, Malachi. I don’t think I will ever see it the same again. Sobo wanted me to be able to go out and enjoy myself, little did I know she meant, grab a guy and make love under it.”  “I’m sure that’s not what she meant and I better not catch you under this umbrella with anyone else but me.” Kissing her quick, he pulled her to her feet, grabbing blanket and umbrella and pushing them in her hands. “Let’s go, it’s starting to rain.”  Collecting the picnic basket, he followed her footsteps to the car, laughing as they barely closed themselves within before the downpour. http://juliesbookreview.blogspot.com/2015/02/ey-wade-day-5.html?m=1

Give My Sister Freedom~ When Clouds Touch #romance #WeNeedDiverseBooks

“You know, Oka-san and Oto-san, you two can be a little nicer to Paisley. She’s a very good girl for her age.” Yoshiko placed cups of tea in front of her parents before offering them cookies from the plate on the table.“You should hear how some of my friends talk about their sisters. You wouldn’t believe how they talk to their parents.”

“You are just a child, Yoshiko, and should stay in your place.” Her father sipped from his cup.
Ignoring his words, Yoshiko tidied the kitchen before sitting at the table with her parents.

“I’m really serious, Oto-san. You don’t listen to how sad she is, it’s in every sentence she speaks. Her tears are falling all of the time and I don’t think it’s fair. I never see her happy. You have to let her live or she will die alone like a very sad old woman.”
“You are always serious, my Yoshiko, but I will parent Paisley. You do not understand all she has been through. You have seen how it is when she gets a cold or is in the sun’s rays. You were not there when she died as a baby. My heart was broken.”
“I understand a lot. Maybe I wasn’t there when she died, but I am here when she cannot live. That’s so much worse. Anyway, I’m going to the sleepover to have fun. Something you two never let Paisley do.” Laughing along with her parents, she kissed their cheeks before leaving the room. “Promise me you will talk with her, Oto-san.” Her voice carried back into the room from the hallway. “I will talk with her.”

Bet You Can't Catch Me.~ When Clouds Touch #romance

Paisley ran around in the sand like a puppy free from its kennel. Standing and burying her feet in the warm sand one minute and back to the water’s edge in the next and then back to the area where Malachi was busy setting up their paraphernalia.

“Did I ever tell you what I believed as a child?”

“No, what?” He listened with half an ear. His attention caught by her excited energy. Everything was new to her, as if she had been kept in a glass jar. Seeing and hearing everything in a world that could shatter at any moment. He could see from her every movement she was ready to burst; to stave off an anxiety attack and to calm her down, he sat her on a blanket and put a plastic shopping bag in her hands. “Here, sit. Tell me while you open this.”

She laughed when she pulled a red plastic shovel and a  pail from the bag and immediately began digging in the sand and filling the bucket. “You’re so silly, Malachi.”
     “Calmed you down, didn’t it?”
“Only for that moment.” She ran off and came back. “Oh, my God Malachi I can’t believe this. I’ve felt sand before, but it never felt like this. So warm and then wet. Hurry so we can get in the water. Stop being such an old man and let’s go play.” Her impatience was written all over her and he laughed. Running to grab the hat that rolled across the sand and plopping it back on her head.
“You have to hold the hat on or the wind will keep blowing it away.”
“I’ll do my best.” With one hand she held it on while trying to pull him to the water. “Let’s do this in a minute. Please, let’s get in the water, now.” Without waiting she ran. “Bet you can’t catch me.”
    “Okay, okay.”
Ramming the pole of the beach umbrella as deep in the sand as possible, he ran after her. Lifting her in mid stride, running on and continuing until he was chest deep in the water before lifting her small frame and dropping her unceremoniously. The cold from the water was like a shock of electricity and she screamed. Bouncing up once before rising, spluttering, wide eyed and sinking again. For a moment he stood frozen, terrified and cursing himself for not even knowing if she could swim. When she didn’t surface again, he dived in, petrified when he couldn’t find her. Swimming in agitated circles, he searched in vain, coming up when he could no longer breathe only to have his head trapped in a headlock and forced back down. Grabbing Paisley by the waist, he held her above water, examining her with the horrified expression of an anxious parent. The laughter escaping her at the mixture of relief and anxiety written all over his face.
“I thought I’d drowned you.” There was no laughter in his voice.
“I can swim you know.” She laughed again. Flapping her feet in the air in swimming motions.
“No, I didn’t know. How would I know? And where did you go? I didn’t see you under the water.” “Of course you didn’t, that was my intention. Serves you right for throwing me in when you didn’t know whether or not I would drown.” She splashed a few hands full of water in his face. And quickly swam away. Stopping a few feet out of his reach to taunt him with his inability to keep up. “I’m a lot faster in the water than I am on land.”
     “Wait until I get you.”
